Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 7, 2026

Overview

BreadAdvisor is a bread baking advisor and coaching app. We help home bakers plan recipes, evaluate dough mid-ferment, and diagnose finished bakes. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the app, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

You can use BreadAdvisor in anonymous mode without creating an account — 3 lifetime free recipe plans, plus unlimited dough checks and bake logs. Creating an account lets you save your recipe library and track versions across bakes.

We collect the minimum data needed to make the app work. We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers. We do not track you across other apps and websites.

Data We Collect

Account data

If you create an account, we collect your email address — used to send the one-time sign-in link that authenticates you. If you choose Sign in with Apple, we also store the Apple user identifier Apple provides so we can recognize you on future sign-ins.

We assign each account an internal user ID (a randomly-generated identifier) that links you to your saved recipes, bake logs, and subscription state.

We do not collect your name, phone number, address, date of birth, or other personal identifiers unless you choose to enter them as part of your bake notes.

Usage data

While you use the app we collect basic usage events — recipe plans you create, dough checks and bake logs you submit, and which app screens you interact with. This helps us understand which features are useful and where the app falls short.

We also collect crash reports and basic device diagnostics (device model, OS version, app version) to fix bugs and improve reliability.

If you use the app signed out, we use your IP address as a rate-limit identifier so anonymous users get a fair share of free plans without requiring sign-up. The IP is not linked to any account identifier.

Photos and bake logs

When you submit a photo of your dough, your finished loaf, or your crumb, we send that photo to our AI processing partner (Anthropic) to generate the analysis you see in the app. When you save a bake log, we store the photos and notes you uploaded so you can review them later in your library.

We do not use your photos to train AI models, share them with other users, or use them in marketing without your explicit permission.

Subscription data

If you subscribe to Pro, we store your subscription tier (free or pro) and entitlement expiry. The underlying payment is handled by Apple or Google — we never see your credit card or financial information.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Provide the BreadAdvisor service — generate baker's math, predictions, dough check verdicts, and bake diagnoses based on the recipes and photos you submit.
  • Save and recall your recipe library, bake history, and version comparisons when you sign in.
  • Send you authentication emails (magic sign-in links) and respond to your support requests.
  • Enforce usage limits fairly — free users get 3 lifetime recipe plans, then ad-watch or Pro; Pro users have a safety cap to guard against runaway client retries.
  • Show a rewarded video ad in the free tier when you choose to watch one to unlock another recipe plan.
  • Diagnose crashes and improve the app's reliability and quality.

We do not use your data to make decisions about you outside the app, to build advertising profiles, or to sell to data brokers.

Third-Party Services

Anthropic (AI processing)

We use Anthropic's Claude API to generate the AI-powered analysis in the app — Plan a Bake (baker's math, predictions, risk flags), Check Your Dough (verdict + reasoning), and Log a Bake (diagnosis, predicted-vs-actual). When you use these features, your recipe text and any photos you submit are sent to Anthropic for processing.

Anthropic processes this data on our behalf under their API data policy and does not use it to train their AI models. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

RevenueCat (subscriptions)

If you subscribe to Pro, RevenueCat manages your subscription state across the App Store and Google Play on our behalf. They receive your internal BreadAdvisor user ID and your subscription information (start date, expiry, renewal status). They do not receive your email, photos, or recipes. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Cloudflare (infrastructure)

BreadAdvisor's backend runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure — Workers (serverless functions), D1 (database), and KV (cache). Cloudflare stores the data we collect on our behalf in encrypted form. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

Resend (email)

We use Resend to deliver authentication emails (magic sign-in links). Resend receives your email address and the link content only for delivery. They do not use this for their own marketing. See Resend's Privacy Policy.

Google AdMob (advertising)

In the free tier, we show a short rewarded video ad when you exceed the free recipe plan cap and choose to watch one to unlock another plan. Google AdMob serves this ad and may use your device's advertising identifier to personalize it, subject to your device's privacy settings.

On iOS, you can control whether AdMob receives the identifier via the App Tracking Transparency prompt; on Android, you can opt out of personalized ads or reset your advertising ID in your device's privacy settings. See Google's Privacy Policy and Ads Help.

Amazon Associates (affiliate links)

BreadAdvisor participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Some links on our website (currently on the homepage and the in-browser dough check page) are affiliate links — when you click one, we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

We do not share any personal information with Amazon. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to Amazon's website, where Amazon's own cookies, identifiers, and privacy practices apply — not ours. Amazon may set tracking cookies on your browser after you arrive on their site to attribute purchases to our account and to operate their own services. We only receive aggregate commission reports from Amazon; we do not see what you searched for, browsed, or purchased.

Affiliate links on our pages are clearly labeled with a disclosure beneath each link. See Amazon's Privacy Notice for details on Amazon's data practices once you reach their site.

Claude and ChatGPT connectors

If you connect BreadAdvisor to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, you are granting that assistant permission to use your BreadAdvisor account on your behalf — the same recipe library, dough checks and bake logs you have in the app. This is the reverse of the Anthropic relationship described above. There, we send your data to Anthropic to process on our behalf. Here, the assistant is calling into our servers using your authorization, the same way the mobile app does.

When you approve the connection we receive an access credential from that platform and use it to confirm each request is really yours. We do not receive your conversation history, and the platform receives only what a specific action returns — your recipe library, a dough verdict, a bake diagnosis. Anything you type in that conversation reaches us only if the assistant passes it into a BreadAdvisor action.

Photos sent through a connector cannot travel inside the assistant’s request, so they are uploaded directly to us through a single-use link. We hold an uploaded photo for at most 15 minutes and delete it the moment it has been analysed, or when the link expires unused. It is never shared with the assistant platform.

Recipes you plan through a connector are saved to your BreadAdvisor library, exactly as they are when you plan a bake in the app.

You can disconnect BreadAdvisor at any time from that platform’s own settings. Disconnecting stops the assistant from making any further requests on your behalf. The access credential it holds expires automatically within an hour, and the longer-lived credential that renews it expires after 90 days without use. To end access immediately and everywhere, delete your BreadAdvisor account — see Account and data deletion below.

Cookies and Local Storage

The BreadAdvisor mobile app uses your device's secure local storage to keep your session token, app preferences, and a per-recipe cache of recent plan results so you can resume where you left off. We do not use third-party tracking cookies in the mobile app.

Our website (breadadvisor.app) uses minimal first-party local storage to remember your preferences. We do not load third-party tracking cookies or analytics scripts on our pages. The exception: if you click an Amazon Associates affiliate link, you'll leave our site and arrive on Amazon, where Amazon sets its own cookies to operate their site and attribute commissions to us — see Amazon Associates above for the full disclosure.

Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you stop using the app, we retain your account data for up to 24 months from your last sign-in, then we anonymize or delete it on a rolling basis.

Crash reports and aggregated usage events are retained for up to 90 days, then deleted.

Photos and bake logs are retained as part of your saved library until you delete them individually or close your account.

Rate-limit records tied to IP addresses are retained for up to 35 days for abuse prevention, then expired automatically.

Photos uploaded through an AI-assistant connector are held for at most 15 minutes and are deleted as soon as they have been analysed, or when their upload link expires unused.

Your Rights

Access and portability

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Send your request to privacy@breadadvisor.app from the email address tied to your BreadAdvisor account. We respond within 30 days.

Account and data deletion

You can request deletion of your BreadAdvisor account and all associated data at any time.

To request account deletion:

  1. Send an email to privacy@breadadvisor.app from the email address tied to your BreadAdvisor account.
  2. Use the subject line "Account deletion request."
  3. We confirm receipt within 3 business days and complete deletion within 30 days.

What gets deleted: your account record (email address, internal user ID, Apple user identifier if linked), all saved recipes and their version history, all bake logs and any photos you uploaded, your subscription state, your usage counters and unlock credits, and all active session tokens.

What we retain after deletion: aggregated, anonymous usage statistics with no personal identifiers; billing records required by tax law (handled by Apple or Google, not by us directly) for up to 7 years; abuse-related logs (such as rate-limit records tied to IP addresses) for up to 90 days for fraud prevention.

If you only want to delete specific saved recipes or bake logs (not your whole account), you can do that directly in the app — open My Library, long-press any recipe or log card, and confirm deletion. This is immediate and reversible only within the same session.

California residents (CCPA)

If you reside in California, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, the right to correct inaccurate personal information, and the right to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information.

BreadAdvisor does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise CCPA rights, contact privacy@breadadvisor.app.

EEA/UK residents (GDPR)

If you reside in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing.

Our lawful bases for processing your data are: (a) performance of the BreadAdvisor service contract (necessary for the features you request), (b) our legitimate interests in app reliability and abuse prevention, and (c) your explicit consent for optional analytics or personalized advertising where applicable.

To exercise GDPR rights, contact privacy@breadadvisor.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children's Privacy

BreadAdvisor is intended for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to BreadAdvisor, contact privacy@breadadvisor.app and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and (where required by law) notify you through the app or by email. Continued use of BreadAdvisor after an update means you accept the revised policy.
